Pann's Coffee ShopPann's Coffee Shop

In this piece, I included the neon tubing of “Pann’s” lettering, as well as the type “Parking” and “Coffee Shop” that appear under the larger sign. The painting captures Pann’s unique neon sign along with a partial view of its strikingly angled roof.

The interior features a series of geometric shapes and angles executed in warm tones, creating a dynamic composition. The early morning traces of pink clouds provide a beautiful contrast with the warm colors of the sign and interior. Measuring 48” x 38”, this piece is done in acrylic on canvas

A little background on Pann’s: Pann’s, a coffee shop restaurant in Los Angeles, California, opened in 1958 and is renowned for its history, role in movies, and distinctive architecture and neon sign. It stands as one of the best-preserved examples of Googie design (not Google), a futurist architectural style influenced by car culture, jets, the Atomic Age, and the Space Age. Originating in Southern California from the Streamline Moderne architecture of the 1930s, Googie design was popular in the United States from approximately 1945 to the early 1970s.
